Ghost Doors

In February 2023 my research partner and I conducted a local report into the disappearing housing suppling in the borough of Verdun, Montréal. One of the initiators of this research and a resident of the area, I already observed several of these "ghost doors" in this area. By "ghost doors" we mean addresses of dwellings that have disappeared by merging with other dwellings. But "ghost doors" can also refer to dwellings uninhabited by regular residents to be used for tourist short-term accommodation. This research report allowed us to have a general look at the situation of the transformation of plexes from divided co-ownerships to undivided ownership, as well as on the regulations of the borough concerning the enlargements by merging dwellings, subdivisions and changes of use.
