The Brossard Manifesto
The following Master Plan is a call to action proposing various methods for increasing the sustainability and resilience of the City of Brossard. The recommendations are inspired by successful practices elsewhere and are meant to encourage a holistic approach to retrofitting the suburban environment in order to better meet the needs of the 21st century. Our designs were shaped in the specific context of a city which is undergoing an improvement to its collective transportation network through both the ongoing construction of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) high frequency light rail transit network, as well as a tram line which is being proposed to connect Brossard with the neighbouring municipalities of Longueuil and La Prairie to the north and south respectively. While this configuration is unique to Brossard, many of the interventions envisioned here can be adapted to fit the context of suburban communities across the Montréal Metropolitan Region, which continue to push into the agricultural and natural lands along their edges at an alarming rate.
